Educational Coaching
Whether you're looking for long term coaching or simply as-needed help, I provide individualized and group tutoring/coaching plans for adults or children struggling with Reading, Writing, Critical Thinking, and public speaking. I use various methods including memorization, reading for enjoyment, grammar skills, writing prompts, journaling, acting, strategy games (cards and board games), and taking the time to listen to the struggles the student is going through. All payments are due prior to sessions.
1
one on one reading
Hour long sessions tailored to the student's individualized needs. Beginning with an initial evaluation to discern whether it is phonetic, comprehension, boredom, or a mixture of all that causes the problems. Also, to discover the interests of the student and the level of reading ability. After the initial evaluation, I will create a plan of action, which may involve some sort of at homework. For parents this will mean holding your child accountable and possibly working with them reading and/or using a writing journal, flashcards, or learning games. In session we will work on phonetic and/or comprehension skills and read together out loud, discussing comprehension as we go along. At the end of class there will be a time for strategy games which I find help with concentration and strategy skills in a fun and challenging way. The cost is $20 per session which includes any workbooks or things needed for learning.
2
one on one writing
Hour long sessions tailored to the student's individual needs. The first session will be an initial evaluation to discern what specific issues need attention (grammar, organization, sentence structure, etc.) and then a discussion for a plan of action to fit in the student's schedule and level of need. Sessions may include workbook pages, writing prompts, outlining, storyboarding, confidence building, research methods, etc. Lots of discussion and note taking. For possible at home work journaling of some sort maybe encouraged. At the end of class strategy or word games may be used for vocabulary and confidence building. The cost will be $20 per session which will include all supplies necessary for hands on work.
3
small group tutoring
Session will be 4 weeks for one and a half hours per week. Groups of 4 to six students will meet to work on preplanned exercises. These sessions will be more fluid less specific due to having multiple students and less intensity for individual necessities, although structure and focus will be expected for smooth flow.
1. Reading groups will meet to read books or excerpts aloud, taking turns reading pages, learning to use inflection, punctuation, and understanding of the text. Also, workbook pages on grammar, punctuation, comprehension, and vocabulary. Stategic games may be incorporated to help with focus and strategic thought.
2. Writing groups will meet to collaboratively create works of fiction and nonfiction. Sessions may include workbook pages, writing prompts, outlining, storyboarding, confidence building, research methods, etc. Lots of discussion and note taking. After writing exercises students will edit each other's work. Journaling will be encouraged. Strategy and/or word games may be used at the end of sessions to encourage vocabulary growth and strategic thought.
Group sessions will cost $60 per person and must have a minimum of 4 students.
4
public speaking
Hour long sessions will be tailored to the student's individual needs. An initial meeting to discuss the concerns and expectations of the student will lead to a plan of action. Depending on the student's needs each session may include writing concise language, vocabulary, confidence building exercises, improvised writing and/or acting prompts, annunciation, eye contact, and posture. While public speaking isn't enjoyable for everyone, becoming comfortable with the necessity of achieving the goal is what I will hopefully help the student attain. The cost will be $20 per session which will include all materials needed.
